Problem/Challenge: For this project, I created a simple line of skincare products that are visually attractive and align with current trends. The concept was to create a single product line with ingredients that will work for most skin types, making skincare approachable and accessible for all.
I began by researching other skincare brands, especially those which are popular for the millennial and gen z audience. I noticed that many of these brands, such as Laneige or The Ordinary, had relatively simplistic packaging design, with the main focus being on typography and color choice. I chose to go with a colorful palette to make the products feel inviting, as well as to create a clear visual distinction between each product in the line. However, unlike the brands in my research, I also added an illustrative element to my packaging to add visual interest.
From there, I went about deciding which products I would like to include in my line. Because I wanted this brand to feel approachable, I decided to keep it simple with a 4-step skincare line. I included the basic products that I feel everyone should use for skincare; a cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and eye cream. Each of these products features one active ingredient, which is the selling point of the product. The cleanser’s active ingredient is lactic acid, the moisturizer’s active ingredient is ceramides, the sunscreen’s active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, and the eye cream contains caffeine. I then created the labels for these products, which included typography, a clear color palette, and visual graphics.
Once my packaging was designed, I went about creating 3D renderings of the product bottles using the program Adobe Dimension. These models were then used to create marketing materials such as social media graphics.
